    Counterfeit Electrical Products

Counterfeit electrical products have infiltrated nearly all categories in the electrical channel. Do you have first hand experience with this problem? Have you inadvertently installed any counterfeit products?

Yes I have...if "Made In China" = counterfeit. I've had more faulty parts right out of the box "MIC" in the last year than I have in 22 years. Sometimes the new replacement to the first new replacement was bad, right out of the box. The sticking point is...who pays for the labor?

No, but I remember a notice from a couple of years ago about the faux Square D breakers. It is definitely a problem that is likely to get worse, since they have no respect for intellectual property there.

The Federal StabLock breakers were / are some of the worst in the industry . No great loss when they went by the way side . Unfortunatly , a lot of them are still around . :-)

    And replacements are $$$ !

Well , the OLD ones may have had a legitimate UL label ? Once upon a time ? Do not know ?

But they still were a sorry product , especially the " thins " .

Nope not even the old one to the best of my knowledge. Counterfeit labels. Took years for it to be found out.

Saw a thread on here the other day, counterfeit condensers that look just like the american counterpart. They just build another factory and make the same thing on their own line by the same specs.

Quite a few years ago read a large article in the paper about Uniweld who used to make refer gages, regs etc in our area Clev, OH. They moved there manufacturing to China and closed down here. Their used dies were stolen and illegal/poor quality products were being made. They were being sold as the real deal and uniweld was getting many warrantee claims until they figured out what was going on. They were asking for help from the our government. I am not a business man at all but to me the answer was clear.

So Uniweld made a bad business decision and now wants a government "bail out". Good old GREED at work. I believe GM had to make a commitment to China to open factories there. Wish I could find the link.
