Trane Negative Pressure Combustion Blower Failures
Can anybody shed some light on the mode of failure I'm seeing in the larger Trane gas packs with the -0.2" WC combustion system? I've seen several relatively young units with an internally shunted combustion blower motor, making the motor run all the time (no, it's not a high temp trip - the circuit is closed). the motor assembly is easy enough to change out and set up, but the wholesale cost is rather high and the failure rate seems excessive especially when two of four units just over a year old have had failures on the same job. Ideas?

It is a known issue, and many replacement parts are covered under warranty on the newer units.
There is an entire kit you install to remove all power from the motor until a call for heat is initiated.

On a two speed inducer combustion blower the windings will short causing the motor to continuously run. The run capacitor fails or its performance has degraded to the point that it causes motor windings to overheat and eventually short out.
Depending on the model and serial no. it is necessary to install a new motor and upgrade the controls and wiring set up per manufactures recommendations.
But I am still learning and looking for a new mentor.

Deal with it. It's been a problem since they came out with the 2 speed motors. I think I read on here trane offers some kind of kit to remedy the problem, but don't take my word on it.
