Danger of applying liquid freon 22 to the low pressure line.

When the freon container is almost empty and of course the pressure is too low i have noticed some technicians momentarily tip the container to provide liquid freon to the low pressure line... Is this an approved process.. Is it safe if only a tiny bit is injected at a time... is it necessary to shut down and give the liquid a short time to convert to gas or should the unit continue to run with tiny increments of liquid be injected until the corrrect low and high pressure is reached....

Can the lliquid be more safely injected into the hi pressure line by connecting there?

You cannot charge into the liquid line as high pressure goes to low and hot goes to cold, if you tap the liquid line to a recovery cylinder the compressor will pump the reefer out into the tank. Charging liquid into the suction is common practice as its quicker than charging vapor, the manifold and gauge is used to throttle the liquid as to flash the reefer as to not damage the compressor.

It would take a lot to hurt the compressor. I always charge as a liquid. With 410, you can only charge as liquid.

X2, everybody does otherwise it would take all day to charge a system.
