    Newest Universal Soldier movie review

    Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning

Anyone seen this? Anyone have any clue as to what the purpose of it is?

Granted, none of the Universal Soldier movies are Academy Award material, but for the most part, they are mindles, action movie entertainment. This latest one has got to be the most boring, though graphic, disjointed movie I have suffered through in a long time....and I am a very tolerant movie watcher.

I'm not really sure why they even bothered bringing back Jean Claude or Dolph for the few cameo spots they did. Their presence just made the lack of a plot even more evident, and they weren't anything like their previous Universal Soldier characters.

Jean Claude looked reminiscent of Marlon Brando in Apocolypse Now, and at the end, Dolph was sporting the raccoon style makeup that Darryl Hannah made popular in Blade Runner. The whole movie reaked of borrowed...nay....stolen concepts of other movies. No characters or events were ever explained as to who or why they existed or for what purpose they were interacting with one another.

The director must have some sort of flicker fetish, or did too much acid while dancing at strobe lighted clubs. There are several different types of flickering filming done, all of them annoying. There is an "eye cam" blinking type of flickering that I guess was supposed to give us the feeling that we were looking out of the characters eyes. That was disorienting in "Being John Malkovich" and it was annoying in this movie. Then they had a more strobe like flickering while one person turned into another person. They even had flickering flourescent light bulbs randomly mounted on walls and ceilings. I've seen 1920's porn movies that flickered less than scenes in this movie.

Overall, you may guess that I was not real impressed with this latest Universal Soldier movie. Anyone else make it all the way through it?

I'm not even going to bother, the first one was borderline, and Colin Ferrell drives me crazy.
    I'm gonna see zero-dark 30 tonight....
Can't be any more fictitious than what was in the media!

You may be thinking of Total Recall. The original had Arnold Shwartzenegger in the lead role that Colin Farrell plays in the remake. I liked the general entertainment value of the first one, but the plot just didn't come together or make sense to me. The remake has a completely different plot that makes more sense. Colin Farrel does a good job in the remake, but it is a completely different movie.

I watched total recall last Saturday, it was good, not something I would write home about though. I never even heard of the new universal soldier movie.

Did you get any point being made by this Universal Soldier? The parts where Dolph was rabble rousing the new recruits was right out of old pirate movies.

It seems to have been written by a 14 year old kid on acid. Van Damme and Lundgren have made my blacklist, not for the the quality of their performances in the movie, but simply for participating in it.

I agree with the writing. Neither Van Damme or Lundgren have done much worthwhile lately. But I can't hold it against them for cashing in on what little star power they still have to make a few bucks off of the little bit they did for that movie.

Did you know that Dolph Lundgren is a very intelligent man? After graduating with honors as a chemistry major from the Royal Institute of Technology (RIT) he was awarded a scholarship to MIT, but took a job as a bouncer for Grace Jones instead. Don't you just hate a 6'5" body building blonde Swede who is also a friggen genius?

Unfortunately I don't see much or many new ideas coming out of the movie industries. I was watching an english Jason Statham movie called "Blitz" the other day and I swear it was like 3 hours long. Really it was only 1-1/2 hours long, but loonnnng it was. I saw the "Parker" movie over the weekend and was much more pleased with the story line even if there wasn't as much action as you'd expect from a Statham movie.

Hey Robin, I was hoping to message you directly but I heard that that is only for professional members. I posted a thread about trying to get a job on a Caribbean island and someone posted that I should talk to you. If there is any information or contacts that you could give me, that will help me along, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

While I did have a contract job on Grand Cayman a few years back, I don't have any connections or knowledge as to how to go about getting such a job. The person who contacted me for the job I did is deceased. Sorry.
