Gotta love people we are working on a condo complex right now and I have seen more than a few 30 year old Lennox 2 ton condensers with new compressors in them

I would only do it as a no warranty situation and money up front if I was ultimately financially responsible for something like this or 30 year old units.
I commend your ability to make messes like these rise from the dead, but I would CYA with a steel reinforced, locking chasity belt.
Charity cases exepted, of course.

If they do not want a new unit and want it fixed I would shove all the parts in it they want. Of course I dont install new stuff, I stay much more busy making old junk new again.

Can't you red tag that unit? Oh yeah its in the land of the free. Free to kill yourself and anyone around.
No one to report this guy to?

I would tell him get some wood and build a fire in the unit then turn on the fan.
Certified parts changer.

the only other thing I suggested to him is electric base board heat. Other then that I can't do anything.
