Looking for R-12 from Chillers

I am in search of a decent amount of R-12, preferably that has been reclaimed from a large scale Chiller that has been decommissioned. Anyone have any thoughts on how I should go about this search?

Call the large refrigerant recyclers like Hudson. Any refrigerant recovered from a decommissioned chiller has to be reclaimed by a licensed reclaimer. In other words, if a contractor recovers refrigerant from a chiller that refrigerant can only be used by the owner of the chiller from which it was recovered. But you already knew that.

From a synopsis of Section 608 of The Clean Air Act: "RECLAMATION-Before recovered refrigerant can change ownership, it must be reclaimed to virgin specifications by a reclaimer that meets EPA certification requirements."

I believe Refron is big into buying refrigerants, try them as well?

If it is for a chiller why dont convert it to R134. Did alot of these and only lost about 10-15% cap.

R12 is a lot cheaper and you can buy it on Ebay by the skid load!

You're kidding, right? Here in our area R-12 is $1100.00/30# jug. R-134a is $120.00/30# jug. R-12 is a bargain on eBay. It's only $21.00/lb. Still five times what R-134a is locally.

OK maybe not cheaper then r134a but cheaper then r12 from other sources, and there was several people selling skids of it.

I searched eBay and found skids of R-134a...no R-12. Anybody with a chiller that holds more than 300 lbs. of R-12 would be foolish not to convert to R-134a. I'm sure most have done so already.

The largest quantity of R-12 I found on eBay was a 50# jug.
