    Carrier 19EA minimum Load amps?

    I resurrected a 19EA that had not run for 10 years, it runs good but only backs down to 400amps, FLA is 820. It seems to me it should go down below 300 at least.
    I can't seem to find any min. load range figures in any factory literature.
    I confirmed vanes are against internal stop. Any ideas before I pull the suction elbow to inspect the vanes? In the past I have had to hand fit vanes on 19D machines to get better fit when closed.

    Is'nt the EA the one with the funky bungee cord cable arrangement to connect all the vanes ??

    Assuming that the machine is not pulling down below setpoint and beyond, then the vanes are probably tight. !9ea is a heavy rotor and drive assembly, so it will pull more kw at low loads below 35%. You didn't mention what your condensor side is doing. Is the tower water staying around 85, also check your condensing temp saturation temp and check condensor approach. The combination of turning a lot of iron and elevated condensing temps could keep amps up. Typically i would expect a completely unloaded 19ea with lower condensing temp to run closer to 1/3 of full load. You state 1/2 of F.L.A. So check condensing first. Use real pressures and real temperature measurements to calculate approach.

    Sorry so long getting back to this, I have 4 OHs going at same time. Three 19D chillers and a bearing inspection on a 5500 ton 17DA. BUSY!
    The cond temps are spot on at 80dg inlet. Tower fan VFD holding within 1dg. The unit pulls 400 amp with vanes backed off all the way. CHW flow is correct, and it pulls below S.P. and goes out on recycle. I'm pretty convinced something is up with the vanes.

    Is there any way for you to get original design spec's for chiller? If everything as you state is according to design, I'd consider a problem with vanes.
    Now, how many have worked on this before you and how critical is operation? The reason I'm askin' is 'cause I've put a rebuilt vane assembley for a larger tonnage machine in a machine and couldn't get less than 50% , but chiller was online and everyone was happy. It took 3 years to get a major outage and install original vane assembly. Chiller now gets down to 40%.
