    I've heard that back in the early 80's, seafood packaging companies would submerge lobsters, shrimp and the like in R-22 and then freeze them to ensure that they were "market fresh" as advertised upon delivery. That sounds like an urban myth to me. Would'nt that prolonged temp. (aside from the oil ruin the product?

    I doubt it because the fish industry uses ammonia refrigeration for quick freezing their product. MUCH lower temps. I know Ice cream plants and the like also use ammonia for the same reason. I would also guess you would not want those refrigerants in direct contact with food because it would dehydrate the product. I could be wrong
