In my area, that is the worst advice you can give anyone. Those are "specials" many companies around here use to get their foot in the door.

The OP should find a contractor they trust who charges a fair price for the maintenance involved. The guys that come out for peanuts HAVE to find something else to bill for.
Give a man a fish, he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, he will eat for a lifetime.

Give a man a capacitor, doesn't know what to do. Teach a man to install it, now he knows everything.

The guys that come out for peanuts are looking to leave with a gold nugget. My Dad used to tell me, "they did not build those casinos on winners", and we did not build our businesses on peanuts. Now if your running an elephant farm, you might prosper with on peanuts.

Usually most company's in the end can be priced nearly the same no matter what the charge up front. Some have a cheaper service call but charge drive time and some are the other way around, some have cheap pm's but sell you parts.

I like to be upfront with my customers and charge a fair price and not have to sell unnecessary parts to make up for a cheap service/diagnostic charge. I sleep better at night that way.
