    Customer went all out

    We didn't build it we just work on it. Customer had 3 80ton TS chillers. Problem was they have two motors to be cooled and the way it is piped one chiller per motor with the third on standby if one of the others drops out. No bypasses or anything so they were running 60 degree chilled water and in summer the TSs hated life. I have mentioned these before but the chilled water upgrade is near completion. They went all out.

    They put in a 8000 gallon chilled water tank. They never had enough of a cushion. When the motors would unload the chillers would fall on their face. Then when they loaded the chillers would maybe catch up in time for unloading.

    The new setup is getting started soon. Chilled water setpoint will now drop to 50. Chillers will be happy. And the motors won't Condensate with bypass valves installed. Life for us will be a little easier with the Trane on primary so the TS machines can be brought back up to snuff.

    They keep upping the bar on the motors. If you look at these they are running at 125% on that screen. They were rebuilt to run that high. They want to raise it up some more which was part of the push. The biggest motors at this location are on nasty swamp coolers still. They are maxed out and have to slow down in summer to below 80%. We changed over a swamp cooler on a downstream mill to two RTACs chilling 100% outside air to 60 and the never have to slow down. Cool temps mean happy motors, happy motors make big money.

    Hopefully changing that one swamp cooler over to a chiller will motivate them to change over the others. Sounds like you are happy, too. Thanks for sharing this.

    Each mill acts like a separate company. The swamp cooler reversing mill really digs our twin RTAC setup at the finish mill for it's capacity and reliability. The mill in today's post was partial in house and a local company but it will work great and we service it so were happy. This place plans for the future so much if you notice the pit the chillers sit in was built a long time ago. There was always a spot for this RTAC: concrete runners, studs, and conduit put in ten plus years ago. On chilled water loops they put in stubs and valves for rental machines even incase of catastrophic chiller failure. This place is the service techs garden of Eden most of the time.

    It's a papermill? This is good stuff I like big machines, those paper mills are incredible the way they maximize each log and cut them in seconds.

    Aluminum. It's a gear head wet dream. A lot of amazing machines everywhere.

    Better yet, Beer can aluminum. Clean process. Not like diamond plate or material rolling aluminum that are filth to the max.
