    Water heater venting fubar

    One of my students found this in a house over Christmas break. Glad he recognized it as WOS material and took a pic for me. The tee drops down to the furnace.

    But that's how the expert at the big box store explained the homeowner should do it when they bought the new gas water heater.
    Use the biggest hammer you like, pounding a square peg into a round hole does not equal a proper fit.

    Looks like they used they proper amount of tape at the connection.....
    I always get confused as to whether the trap goes under the sink or on top of the water heater. You mean there isn't enough fall

    unless it is engineered, i don't use them. never had any issue because of it.

    Yeah, the dielectric unions aren't used very often around here. Don't seem to see/have any issues with the units, although I do teach and preach them in the classroom. I guess it will get done however the boss man says to do it.

    We always use dielectric unions, it's code and I see plenty of messed up connections.

    code here requires unions to be installed before the tank, so everyone seems to use dielectrics
