TAC VISTA - Commissioning a VAV causes VISTA to lock-up.

After commissioning a new VAV the system freezes and server must be rebooted. Here is the kicker... the system is on a virtual server (not on-site) and uses Lon. We are not sure if maybe Lonmaker, Visio, or VISTA is causing the problem. There is a slight bump on the processor; however, net traffic is good. IT department states nothing is being blocked. Any insight or feedback is good.

    Thank you,

    The Bugster

I wanted to update all on this since nobody seemed to want to respond whether due to lack of information or other reasons. What we have been able to prove is that LonMaker shows VAV's online, but Vista every so often presents some of them offline. I am also trying to find information on Vista's compatibility within virtual server environment. Some of Vista's documentation shows compatibility with WAN using ISDN but not specific to Virtual Servers. Any insight to this lengthy issue would be appreciated. Note: we have contacted the local vendor, but they have been unresponsive to compatibility documents.

    More info
Vista Version, OS version, 32/64 bit, Lonmaker version, etc

How are you commissioning the VAV, I assume in LonMaker, but then are you updating Vista after?

What is your IP interface to get to the Virtual Server from FT-10? LIP, Xenta Server, iLon?

Crab Master, I must apologize for not looking back at my postings. The OS is Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard SP1 4gb RAM 64bit 2.40GHz 2 processors. going to a LIP 33ECT, LonMaker. We are still trying to find root cause for VAVs going off-line in VISTA yet LonMaker shows online. When commissioning new VAV's the system will sometimes lock up and reboot is required. We are commissioning through Lonmaker first then updating VISTA. Vista version 5.1.7.219, LonMaker Turbo Edition not sure on version but uses Visio 2010. Thanks again for posting any feedback.

5.1.7 was not the best release, they are now at 5.1.9. 5.1.8 only had a few hotfixes and was a pretty good release.

So the only interface to Vista is thru the LIP33ECT.

There's a known timing issue - http://buildingskb.schneider-electri...w.php?AID=4887 but I don't think that is your problem as you say sometimes, but either way it's good to know and have accounted for and this will help prevent that from happening.

Here's another - http://buildingskb.schneider-electri....php?AID=11435 but more of an FYI as well.

First of all I would suggest upgrading to at least 5.1.8 with all the current hotfixes or even 5.1.9.
Next is based on what you are saying I am suspicious that during commissioning you simply have too much chatter on the LON bus and this is causing your issue.
    Start with the basic's:
Have you verified proper wiring and wire type?
What's the total wire length per segment/channel?
How many devices are on a segment/channel?
    What topology and any terminator(s)?

Is your LIP set to smart switch mode or is it managed? If set to smart switch mode are you resetting it after you add a few devices so it can re-learn the proper address tables?

What bind types are you using on the network? Acknowledged, default, repeated, other? You really should use unacknowledged repeated for best network performance, unless you really have critical info that needs passed and can't be missed.

If all the above checks out to being correct then next I would look at the timing of devices. What is the minimum send time and receive times set to? Are they all set the same? If so they should be staggered with prime numbers preferred. Also I would leave the receive time to 0 unless you have a special application in which you need something to change if it doesn't get a signal in x time.
What other types do you have on the network other than 102AX's?

Crab Master, Thank you for your effective feedback. Its professionalism like yours that keep control organizations a competitive advantage. I will get back with you on results. Of course.. the gov work I do is keeping vendors working; therefore will ask the vendors about this as a suggestion. Nobody knows everything... and sometimes even I need help... hence the use of different forums like this. Thank you again.

    crab master,
I thought I should update you on some results. We tried commanding objects from LonMaker and results were fast however took over 3.5 min for VISTA to update. We will be speaking to vendor to get system upgraded to version you recommend. Thanks again.
