Does it have a defrost termination switch on the evaporator?
I have worker on several freezer units recently and on all of them the previous guy disconnected the x terminal why would
a tech do this?
Does it have a defrost termination switch on the evaporator?
Disconnecting X eleminates the termination. Then your defrost runs the whole length of time on the clock rather that ending on temperature from the defrost termination thermostat or pressure switch.
Defrost termination thermosat could be bad, or needs to be adjusted, and since defrost was terminating before coil was completely defrosted, he unhooked wire to let it run the full time. Rather than fix/adjust dft. Or it could not have a dft in it.
Could be he had problems with ice on ceiling of box and he though that letting it run the full time on the clock would help, which it probably wouldn't.
Could be that he was there one day and the coil had froze. So he put it in defrost, and unhooked X to let it run the full time, and left. Thinking he would come back in a couple days to hook it back up and didn't.
Could be that he thinks that termination is stupid. So he sets the time on the clock for exactly 22 minutes and unhooks X.
Could be a lot of reasons. I would figure out what the problem is, and hook X back up.
OK thanks, defrost terminator was missing in the traulsen box ...all timers are set for a 40min defrost cycle is what i have noticed here in S.Florida. I Know our a/c guys suck and I'm sure its not much different in refer either. Its been a crash course for me been out of the field for 5 years ...anyway Im back , looks like I got parts to sell. The terminator is a censor that clips in or plate mount so no adjustment to be made its either good or not.
Thanks guys
Why do guys walk away from the small things like replacing a defrost termination switch? I refer to that as an easy money repair for the company, and me staying busy.

I have run into this more times then once. Sometimes I feel as though I'm right behind the guy hooking them back up.
Not having early termination is a BIG waste of energy.
Why would a tech disconnect something?
Lack of understanding is a good possibility.
Sometimes you remove it if your having icing issues. IV had it intermittently kick out and your back a few days later with the same issue.

Why is it that those who complain the most contribute the least?
