    American Standard 401 Thermostat "Waiting"

We usually use a 3 degree setback, but when we hit the $ key to go back to the regular set point the heat pump comes on but "waiting" is illuminated and stays on for perhaps a half hour or so before the system brings the heat strips on line. The installing company insists that in the absence of an outdoor thermostat it is just a system quirk with which I'll have to live. It ISN"T a serious problem as the heat runs and strips do eventually come on, but I was wondering if there was a "workaround". The only setup step in the installer's guide pertains to turning the "waiting" icon on and off; there doesn't appear to be anything that relates to adjusting the "waiting" time.

Just in case it is relevant:

Sounds to me like you have a bad stat. The "waiting" is just a time delay from the last time the system shut off. If the system just ran it's 5 min., if it ran 4 min ago it's a min delay. If you just turn it on it's 5 min. It should not last 30 min.

If it aint broke, don't fix it. What the company/tech told you sounds good.

KLS, he states the unit runs just the strips are in delay. If you have no O/D stat it will run a predetermined amount of time before the strips come on, this is to see if the pump will satisfy the heat cycle.
