How to control Barber-Colman MP-5213-0-0-4

Guys , Im trying to retrofit a control system in a local school and they used Barber-Colman MP-5213-0-0-4 actuators on some of the Heat/Chilled water valves. Can they be controlled with a 2-10/0-10/4-20 signal or what does it take to control these?

Most likely 6-9vdc but you also need a capacitor to put between red and blue wires to stabilize the internal 20 Vdc power supply then put control signal + on yellow and common on blue but get the correct document from Schneider before you wire it. I’m just relying on memory.

Yuk, the old beer can hydraulic actuators. Its not worth the time to wire them up IMO. Notorious for oil leaking out and failing. Almost every time I have ran into these, its a large percentage that have long ago failed.

Unless you get the ones built before they made them in Mexico...Belimo makes a good conversion kit.

Since none of the controllers I use have 0-11.5 Vdc outputs, I have been bitten once by that requirement.

Yep, when they bleed red blood they are dead.

We used a JCI actuator on these valves, VA-4233 and a V-9999-BC1 adaptor. But now we mostly replace the whole valve. Packing and seats getting pretty old now. Cut in a ball valve style for less $$ than a new actuator.
