Quotes of wise folks about politics and politicians

I thought I would start a different kind of political thread this time... Rather than fuss over this or that... lets post quotes about politics and politicians (or by politicians or others). In the midst of the quotes... there may be some wisdom and/or understanding... Here goes:

“Just because you do not take an interest in politics, does not mean politics won't take an interest in you.” – Pericles 495-429 B.C.

Moral: One can ignore politics... however that does not mean they will not be affected by what polecats do (laws).

This is the moment when we must build on the wealth that open markets have created, and share its benefits more equitably.

Well... here is a 'drive by posting'... got an Email with lots of quotes... thought I would add it:

"Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."
    - Benjamin Franklin

"A free people ought to be armed."
    - George Washington

"Firearms are second only to the Constitution in importance; they are the peoples' liberty's teeth."
    - George Washington

"A free people ought not only to be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government."
    - George Washington

"The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature.
They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes.... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."
    - Thomas Jefferson (quoting 18th century criminologist Cesare Beccaria)

"Americans have the right and advantage of being armed, unlike the people of other countries, whose leaders are afraid to trust them with arms."
    - James Madison

"To disarm the people is the most effectual way to enslave them."
    - George Mason

"Arms in the hands of citizens may be used at individual discretion in private self defense."
    - John Adams:

"We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge, or gallantry, would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."
    - John Adams

"The Constitution shall never be construed to prevent the people of the United States who are peaceable citizens from keeping their own arms."
    - Sam Adams

"The Constitution of most of our states (and of the United States) assert that all power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves; that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed."
    - Thomas Jefferson

"The strongest reason for people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government."
    - Thomas Jefferson

"If gun laws in fact worked, the sponsors of this type of legislation should have no difficulty drawing upon long lists of examples of crime rates reduced by such legislation. That they cannot do so after a century and a half of trying -- that they must sweep under the rug the southern attempts at gun control in the 1870-1910 period, the northeastern attempts in the 1920-1939 period, the attempts at both Federal and State levels in 1965-1976 -- establishes the repeated, complete and inevitable failure of gun laws to control serious crime."
    - Senator Orrin Hatch

"There's no question that weapons in the hands of the public have prevented acts of terror or stopped them."
    - Israeli Police Inspector General, Shlomo Aharonisky

"All political power comes from the barrel of a gun. The communist party must command all the guns, that way, no guns can ever be used to command the party."
    - Mao Tse Tung

"A system of licensing and registration is the perfect device to deny gun ownership to the bourgeoisie."
    -- Vladimir Ilyich Lenin

"Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed, as they are in almost every country in Europe."
    - Noah Webster

"To preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of the people always possess arms, and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them."
    - Richard Henry Lee

"This may be considered as the true palladium of liberty.... The right of self defense is the first law of nature: in most governments it has been the study of rulers to confine this right within the narrowest limits possible. Wherever standing armies are kept up, and the right of the people to keep and bear arms is, under any color or pretext whatsoever, prohibited, liberty, if not already annihilated, is on the brink of destruction."
    - St. George Tucker

"Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves."
    - William Pitt

"Among the many misdeeds of the British rule in India, history will look upon the act of depriving a whole nation of arms, as the blackest."
    - Mahatma Gandhi

"If I could have banned them all - 'Mr. and Mrs. America turn in your guns' - I would have!"
    - Diane Feinstein

    And finally

"No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms."
    - Thomas Jefferson

To place any dependence upon militia is assuredly resting upon a broken staff. Men just dragged from the tender scenes of domestic life, unaccustomed to the din of arms, totally unacquainted with every kind of military skill ... makes them timid and ready to fly from their own shadows.

GEORGE WASHINGTON, letter to the President of Congress, Sep. 24, 1776

He was pretty much calling....the militia.... worthless and cowardly.... which it seems back then...as now.....is true.

Aurora colorado... ccw permit holders flew from their shadows.....

    ..

Forget the 2nd Amendment right corny, I wish you would lose your 1st Amendment right for the sake and well being of all on the ARP here. That would be great. Thank you, thank you very much
"I could have ended the war in a month. I could have made North Vietnam look like a mud puddle."
"I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them. It is not to inaugurate new programs, but to cancel old ones that do violence to the Constitution."

Corny is an instigator... he knows not what he says other than to irritate.

The best thing to do with Corny is to place him on ignore.
