On the upside if you need a Tim tebow jersey and a virus to crash your computer you can try the links!

the little triangle in the lower left corner will get the mods attention also, although it seems to take awhile to refresh

IMO the best thing we can do to help with spam is to report it as soon as we see it.

Usually it is a new thread with the first post being a new guest... Most of the time when TPTB see it, it is pulled.

Dilligence, and some good I T help... and we will get ahead of this stuff.

The stuff I was seeing was buried in threads. They were trying to sell jerseys but randomly put a foot ball players name in a story that had nothing to do with football. You could click on the name then who knows, I don't watch football so don't need a Tim tebow jersey lol

What I do see is lots of spam in ARP... however it is not advertising...

I hear you there. I'd swear this site is half hvac and have political debate. I come for the hvac. Some people I see in the arp I have never seen in any sort of hvac related post so I assume they are here to have a little fun I guess.

For you guys who want to know...

Spammers from several different countries have been seeding our site for months with spoof registrations. Just a few at first then they hit us hard for the past few months. I watched our registration numbers increase but it got to the unbelievable numbers so I did some checking.

To date I've removed about 21,000 of these spoof registrations. This has to be done by hand. I'm still working on it. To keep them from making more I turned off the registration menu. When I catch up to most all I can find then I will turn the registrations back on with several filters to slow them down or reject them.

I'm working on October now. The 21,000 was from December and November.

If you look at the spammers join date it will be back from a month or two when they joined. Can't get them all and my eyes are spinning. Spent my holidays here busting a cap in their arse best I can. But... it's a one registration at a time, looking up IP's and matching to their country. China, Russian, Taiwan, Turkey, Iran, India, Nigeria and the list goes on. If you look at my globe below you will see that I've also blocked major IP regions.

Not all of these are bots. Some countries actually hire low income workers to search their seed registrations until they find one that will accept a post. Spammers love humans... there is an art to their posts...they spoof you into thinking there is a value to their post with links taking you off site. Chances are these links contain malware that will also seed your computer. In some cases it will P2P your computer to make them more powerful. Don't click on any spoof links.

Doing the best I can and you guys are great help by reporting them to the triangle if you can see it.

    thx

Yup... I just popped another 2417 spoof accounts in November.

I think I've got the majority of them now and will be resetting all the filters on the registration end. Hopefully I can turn registrations back on by the end of today. But, even with the filters in place there will be a few that manage to get through. Nothing is perfect.
