Well then maybe you should get off the phone and pay attention when you're backing up. If the gubmint confiscates all the cars we won't need to worry about those horrible weapons killing our kids. Anyone else here for an automobile ban? At least an SUV ban. Even though they operate the same way as a passenger car, SUV's and mini vans have more mass to them which makes them much deadlier.

Do you REALLY need a reverse. I am not saying you should not be able to own a car, but we all know most tragedies happen in reverse.

Back into the driveway (parking space), THEN pull out with a full view of what is in front of you.
Our local telephone company requires this procedure. You can see who or what is in the parking space when you go to back in, then you can see MUCH better when you pull out to leave...

The problem is that most people who choose SUVs are the last people that should be let loose with one, they can reverse in because they don't have the spacial awarness and prefer to reverse out as they don't risk damaging their car (collateral damage seems to be more acceptable to them). There ought to be a different licence with reversing a priority - plus rearview down mirror or camaras conpulsory)
I have met some one who killed a toddler - radio was blaring her kids were playing up and she just went back - thats her story. Well it aint good enough.

I was ran over by a station wagon back in the 60's, Iwas 8 or 9. I was kneeled down behing the car, it started backing up, I grabbed the bumper and just drug under the car as it backed up. When it stopped to go forward i just let go and got up, not a scratch. Backing accidents happen, the driver must be diligent to avoid them.

At a place I worked years ago one of the guys had an old Ford LTD that had no reverse. He would always park in the parking lot so he could just drive out. Once someone parked in front of him and he took the bus home.

I've driven vans with no rearview mirrors or cameras for 15 years and have never backed over a child. Maybe the law should just apply to women. Most of them are nuts anyway...

I always back in, but for other reasons.....
