HVAC Business Ownership - Possible Reality or Pipedream
Hi Guys,
A client told me his son went to the community college and earned his HVAC degree at age thirty. He worked for three years for someone and then started doing business on the side for family and friends. Within a few years he is doing $250,000 in revenue and has two guys working for him in the Central Valley (i.e Hanford/Fresno area).
Does this sound possible or would this be more the exception then the norm with HVAC business ownership?
Thank You

I dont know about the norm. But if he's sharp and aggressive its certainly possible.

I'll use a story as an exmaple.
A pilot is being tossed around in instrument conditions when he discovers that the amount of fuel he has on board is not as he calculated, and his engine sputters to a stop. He pitches the nose down for best glide speed, breaks out of the clouds at 5,000 feet, and finds he is directly over an airport, with the sun shining and no conflicting traffic.
Possible.
But not probable.[Avatar photo from a Florida training accident. Everyone walked away.]

Why coudn't he do it? Especially if his business is mostly installs. The OP sid 250k in revenues, he's not paying himself 250k. Paying 2 salaries, having 3 trucks on the road, and all his other business and insurance expenses, the guy ain't making that much. Maybe 6 figures. maybe not

jtrammel is probably right. He is bringing home around 25k out the 250k. Or is -25k in the hole. Not worth the headache. Go work for someone else and make double or triple that amount. Punch the clock and go home with no worries.

So the people you work for don't make money?
If your making 75k a year how much you think your boss is making. Less? If your business orientated and can make it work. Anything is possible.. Truth is I worked for a few bosses, That didn't no anything about hvac but they know people. And hiring me got there jobs done and they made money while I made a hourly rate. I made $25 for the hour while he made 300.
