Oh man... Why?
This should not be allowed.

This flue is below the roof line as well at the same place.

It's expensive to service them. Need a lift.

If the duct won't go to the equipment, the equipment will go to the duct.
Seems like it would have been less expensive to set the equipment on the ground and run the duct up the wall than build stands for the equipment. They must have had other reasons to put the equipment up on stands. Flood zone perhaps.

This is stupid. The explanation that I hear from the train drivers, every time they do this, is that the fan in the package unit won't support the extra vertical lift and still maintain the required static pressure. Whatever....
If that is the case, then they need to chose the right equipment for the job.
-
Just bring in a front end loader and about a dozen semi loads of dirt. OR ... you could just tell the customer that those units are in a un safe condition and need a proper deck and rail around them to be properly serviced. I beleave code actually requires that.

dealt with a few like that; stupidest thing I've seen.
write it up as unsafe to service.

I would rent a platform lift and charge it to them. No way would I try to do that work off of a ladder.

I replaced the inducer off the ladder, not real excited about it but it was on the front, another unit has a blower out and I'm pushing strongly for us to use a lift for that.

I would only do that off the lift. You would have to crawl in there off a ladder.

I saw this same thing just the other day on a house. The first one I'd ever seen. I was driving down the road and it caught my attention out of the corner of my eye. I thought how dumb is that.

After years of using a ladder like that it becomes Natural,, I would work on those any day, Bill for two man Plus a nice Excessive fee.
Of course I would be the guy holding Ladder. LOL. Jobs like that it's the Featherlight mechanic u want, Make sure those schrader caps have a rubber,, If it has belt Use X,, Keep fan on auto if possible stretch Filter life. And clean the coil every 2 years but have a coil cleaning crew that understands HVAC and keep logs of all work per unit. On those wild card filter change appointments Schedule the guy who's been the Pain in the a?? that week.
Anybody who looks at pic can agree it's a Pain than why not do as many things in one shot,, And all of the the units. Jobs like that is actually a test for a good dispatcher/Management. U sell it 2 them than do it right.
