Was it the blower cover or the heat exchanger cover? They have 20 or more screws in the heat exchanger cover. The blower and burner/compressor covers screws strip out very easily.

What were they gonna do then it started to crack at the ends of the tubes?
I'm surprised they didn't pull it out and use JB weld on it.

Probably could have changed the HX in the time it took to put all those clamps on. Just plain stupid.

The cover that blew off was the side access panel to the compressors and electrical. Gas line enters thru same cover and so does the combustion exhaust. Also the cover which slides out protecting the gas train and burners blew off into the compressors. Most of the wires were burned up and the control circuit board was blown.

Apparently a prior service company worked on it last winter. It appeared they put aluminum peel and stick duct tape over cracks and then strapped them As for the wire I guess they ran out of straps LOL!

We removed all and installed new exch ,burners, valve, board, comb motor and all.

Hahaha! Seriously. Give me a Carrier any day to replace the heat exchanger.
