Rheem RGFD with Error Code 68
Hey,
Came home to a COLD house yesterday evening, and the display on the furnace was flashing '6' then '8'... I understand if I turn it off then on, it reads the last 5 error codes starting with the oldest first? But just in case, it flashes '2' and '2' as well when starting up, then '6' and '8'. It sounds like the blower tries to start up, but cuts out right aways. The burners light.
Would this be the blower motor needing replacing or a control unit? The guy who looked at it, and installed it, wants to replace the blower motor first... just thought I'd check here, he said he was unable to test it.

Was he licensed ?
At who's cost does he want to replace the motor?
Why don't you trust him?
Do you have the manual ?
Did you look inside door, or manual to see what the codes meant ?The opinions expressed by me are not that of my employer.

Yes he's licensed, it would be at my cost, I totally trust him, he just wasn't sure if it was the blower motor or a control unit. I do have the manual and yes we looked at the codes... I did notice the inside panel refers to ICM whereas the manual refers to ECM for this code? That's the blower motor I assume?

Well he could use a motor tester and see if the motor is defective or not otherwise he is flipping a coin with your money.

It's usually the module or circuit board that goes bad, there is a tool to test the motor to see which one it is.
