    School shootings

I just emailed a couple of congressman in my district to consider passing new legislation.
It's not for gun control. I don't believe in that.
But I do believe that we can make schools safer by two ways.
One locking down every school during session. Yes the kids can go outside for recess. But no one can just walk in without showing ID and being buzzed in by the administration.
Second would be to post an armed guard at the door to every school building.
I realize it would be a huge financial burden but its worth it. I would even ve willing to pay more in taxes to make this happen. Our kids are worth it.
Third, former military personnel would get top priority for these positions. We have too many unemployed vets that are looking for work. This would be a boost for them and our economy by employing thousands of guards.
If you agree email your congressman.
We're awl pawthetic and kweepy and can't get giwrls. That's why we fight wobots.

Having guns at a school is not the answer.

FWIW, My kids school is locked during the day, but if you walk up to the door they just buzz you in and report to a "guard".

    So Sad.

Having guns in school is not the same as having an armed guard. I'm not advocating arming the teachers.

Your kids school needs tighter control.

Every school I work at (probably 40 or so) are locked up with exception of the front door that's generally very near the office. I'm not sure when they started doing this, but ever since I've been working in schools, this has been the "norm" (approx 6 years). That is even true for a school that's about 60 miles from any town larger than a gas station and a store.

I don't think an armed (and trained) guard would be a bad idea. It'd sure be nice if that wasn't needed, but the way things are going something has to happen.

This year alone, in my home town there have been a handful of reports of someone trying to get a kid to hop in their car to abduct them. People are strange, always have been, but there's more crazies out there than there have ever been.
The biggest help is awareness. If everyone in and around schools pays more attention, it's bound to help. Obviously not the cure-all answer, but it'll help. With as much as I'm in schools, I pray I never have to see anything like what happened today, but I have a bad feeling with the 30+ years of my career left, I will to some extent.

I don't find any comfort in the above story from China, but apparently we don't have all the crazies here.

Heard a caller on Hannity today suggest same idea.
Locked doors aren't enough. Today's shooter was buzzed in by the principal.

We protect our money with multiple armed guards.

We protect our children with magnetic locks and 'feel-good' gun free zones.

    Our priorities are bass-ackwards.

For all you guys younger than I am, we used to have a solution. It was simple.

    Ready?

You don't let crazy people walk around.

    That's it.

    Simple.

The ACLU said that we can't do that anymore, so we have all these nut jobs, and the gun, an inanimate object, gets blamed.

If this woman's son had been identified as a loon and placed in protective custody, ALL of those people would be alive, right now.

Ask yourself, how many crimes are done using a gun that is legally owned?

I can't remember the last time I saw one mentioned on the news in my town. That's because criminals and crazies don't care if we have a new gun law, or not. All they need to do is to go into town and ask the right person.

So, for Bob Costas and his ilk, "it's not the gun, stupid."

Many of you may not like this idea but if everyone carried a gun this guy would have been stopped. People need to train themselves on how to use and carry a firearm. People would think twice before committing crimes if they knew they were taking a big chance pulling out a gun.

This has been proven, over and over again.

Look closely at where these shootings happen.

They happen in places where THERE ARE NO GUNS!

I think all teachers need to take the same course as airline Pilots.

We all got use to having locked cabin doors, and armed airline pilots on all flights, along with air marshals on flights.

We would all get use to the idea of armed teachers, and armed college students.

Gun Free Zones = unarmed defenseless people, till these GUN Free Zone end, mass shootings will go on.

I have a Georgia Fire Arms License (AKA - GFL), it allows me to carry concealed, and it's my job to hide it, the only time you will find it, is when I have to use it.

I am truly sorry for the folks who lost loved ones... and it is a shame some kids will not grow up and have a life... however:

The gun was not the issue... no gun ever killed someone without being handled by someone.

Diligence is what is necessary now... or citizens will be disarmed and defenseless against every thug who scores a gun (illegal gun) on the streets.

Today, I was on the phone with one of our service brokerages, which is located in Connecticut. He asked me if I had heard about what happened up there. He made some mention about needing new laws.

Now, I could tell from his voice that this was a young guy, so I shared a couple of things with him, and now, I will share them with you.

The places with the lowest murder rates by gun are the places where it is easy and legal to own a firearm, and to carry it concealed.

The places with the highest murder rates make it nearly impossible for a law abiding citizen to carry a weapon. New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Camden, Baltimore, you name the place. Hard to legally carry, and big time murder numbers from guns not subject to any gun law, because the people using them are LAW-less.

Then, I told him about Tina.

Tina was a girl I wanted to marry back in the late 80's, early 90's. I met her when I worked on a now defunct rock station on the FM band.

She managed a clothing store in Philadelphia. She did not have a gun. Neither did the guy who murdered her one night, using a broken hacksaw blade. He wanted the day's receipts, a little over $1,000.

Guns are not the problem. People are the problem, and the fact that we let dangerous folks roam around like they own the place. I'm sorry ACLU, but my right to be safe trumps their right to wander around.

If Tina had a gun, she might be alive today. But just like the principal in that school in Connecticut, she had no gun to use to save her live. Her murderer now is a permanent resident in a Pennsylvania prison in Coal Township, PA.

Wake up folks, it's the hand of a demented person that holds the gun that is the problem here. Not the gun itself, or how many law abiding citizens own one.

Well Ny2G... there are lots of folks in the Metro Atlanta area who have the credentials, the hardware, and most important the training to carry and protect life. The streets are safer because of this small yet dedicated group.

We need to back off the Rambo stuff for a while... There are folks out there who have suffered their worst nightmare... If we are indeed the folks we think we are... we should feel a little sympathy for them... WITHOUT letting our guard down and letting the polecats get away with anything.

One can truly be empathetic with someone for their loss... without getting taken in a moment of weakness.

After folks have time to grieve... we can decide what to do about folks who do not respect others lives.

I totally agree with you time builder. The crazy people are what is doing the killing not the guns.

That murder in Canada where the guy cut the young mans head off on a greyhound bus because the voices told him. He killed a man and was found crazy. He now gets day passes to go outside the gates.

We are to Nancy willy nilly will the ofenders. You behead someone and you still have rights I think not.

Sorry for your loss TB... I am sure days like today have a special pain for you.

GA says after we allow folks to grieve for a short time... we need to encourage folks to take back America... legally.

I don't see the need for semi automatic guns or automatic guns of any type being available
to the general public at all.

    therein lies the problem.

all this right to bear arms crap has gotten totally out of hand.
open your eyes to what is the 30th attack on schoolchildren since columbine.

at some point some kind of gun law reform has to come about.

how many innocent childern & innocent people have to die for
    people to realize this?

When's the last time you have heard of a crime committed with an automatic weapon? As for semi-auto, you're talking probably 75% of the guns in America, good luck with that. The places with the more restrictive bans such as you are talking about are decidedly less safe than areas with less restrictive gun laws, simply because the criminals are more likely to be outgunned, and less likely to carry out an attack. Besides, why shouldn't I have a semi-automatic weapon? If I'm in a situation, I don't really want to take the time to cycle the action, whether I'm shooting targets or something else. The 2nd amendment does not guarantee that we can have guns only for sporting use or defending our homes against an intruder, but that we have guns in order to be able to have a militia, and if that's outdated, then the constitution needs to be amended, not interpreted. Until the 2nd amendment is removed or changed, it has the force of law no matter how outdated or unnecessary any of us think it may be

Because the war on drugs has done such a fantastic job of keeping illegal drugs off of our streets, right?
