    Confused Have to change oil on low pressure Chillers and have never done it before

    Hey guys have I am a 5th year apprentice and given the job of changing the oil on 4 CVHF 700 tonners and 2 2550 CDHF dualees , have done the purge filters and and oil filters but not sure on how to do the oil , Im a visual person and reading the operation and maintenance manual dosent tell me very much besides do it though the oil charging valve , I know this is simple for you guys but I'm just looking for some direction so that I dont get air into the chiller.

    There are a couple of different ways to perform the maintenance procedure,

    Get pro status and you may get the info You are looking for.

    This isn't rocket science. Do you perform annual service on these chillers? How do you leak check them? That should give you one method. If you use hot water to heat the machines then you can get the oil out when the machine is under positive pressure.

    Another method is an electric oil pump. Far easier and quicker than pressurizing the machine. Hook the suction side of the pump to the oil charging valve, start the pump and slowly open the charging valve. Make sure the discharge hose is secured in an empty bucket. Stop/repeat as necessary to get all the oil out. Make sure you don't turn off the pump before closing the charging valve.

    Thanks for the info guys my 40 year chiller god just retired and the new chiller guy is unsure about Tranes and I wanna take the bull by the horns but dont wanna create more problems , we have heat packs on all the smaller chillers just never done a oil change before .Thanks KnewYork that makes sence to me, was always to busy else where in the plant to have my retired friend show me . I have done leak checks with the heat packs but I also read in some other post the some people dont like to use heat packs cause it causes pressures on the o-rings and creats its own leaks .

    And Troy, my comment about "rocket science" was not directed at you. It was directed at milkyway for suggesting you had to get to Pro status before something as simple as removing oil from a low pressure centrifugal could be shared. I won't go in to technical detail on this open forum, but am willing to share common knowledge items with anyone who asks.

    My first question to the OP would be why are you changing the oil in the first place ?

    What may be common knowledge to you may not be to others, the only reason I SUGGESTED to get pro status if one has never performed this they could be complications, example,.
    1. Over pressurize / loss of charge
    2. Accidentally interdiction of air

    If u wanted to share you great knowledge/ then share it but no need to call anyone out for someone suggest to apply for pro status-
    All I saw was a new guest status.

    Troy. getting your post count up and applying for Pro membership is a good idea. We have a Pro only chiller forum that you may find very valuable sometime down the road.
