Would you hook it to the gutter?
Leave the bottom open for rain.

I wonder how many times that has been shut down. Is there a pile of red tags around there?.
Now your finger prints are on it.Never argue with a crazy man.

actually......it IS YOUR CALL!! You were the last tech. to touch that.
If anything happens to the occupants, it will be your butt on the line. your boss will say "he should have shut it down, and didn't" when the lawyer is pressing him against the wall.
It took me awhile to realize that as a field tech. dealing with some BS from the boss is MUCH easier than dealing with being the last person that actually could have saved some lives.....but didn't.

Boss was at the job with me. And its been this way for 20 years.
I was not in any way asked to look at heater. I did quickly notice issue and lobbyd to install new direct vent.
Also after I repaired sleeve issue it was spilling less. I feel that I did all I could at this point.

I wonder what the minimum clearance to combustibles is when using gutter vent?
Always drink upstream from the herd

WTF?!?!? Nice one. I like the last pic. Very creative stack job to whomever originally installed it.
