    The Carrier dampers will modulate. This feature (few companies offer) eliminates the need for any by-pass damper.

    The system's efficiency will not be compromised.

    Regarding the looks of the thermostat, the Carrier can be installed out of sight if you want and then you'll only see the small sensors in the rooms.

    Carrier Greenspeed is light years ahead of the Trane XL20i. Nordyne's IQ drive would be another option to look into, their zone Tstats are not all that great though. Trane is supposedly coming out with an inverter (modulating) driven unit next year from what I understand.
