Manitowoc evap plate wasted

Have an evap plate that is falling apart. The grids are separating.Wondering if anyone has successfully repaired the grids and how.I know the plate is damaged and just want to keep it going, the unit works great in refrigeration the only problem is during harvest.

Can't be repaired. Removing loose plates may help harvest for now. Sell them a new machine or at least an evap.

You can tap in the loose grids with a rubber mallet or pull them out if they are very loose. I had one customer who managed to repair the evaporator
on their own with some sort of brown epoxy or glue. I've never had any luck myself.

How old is it? Manitowoc's warranty on the evaporator is 5 years

yeah ii've tapped the grids back into place, only to see them creep out few days later when the unit shuts down.(hasnt dropped in the time to harvest) I realize the solution is a new plate or unit customer sees this also. just wanted to tinker w it. I have replaced the plate before it's pretty straight forword. as far as warranty goes this unit has done what it was suppose to , warranty expired 4 yrs ago. thank fellas for your feed back

I hate to admit it but you can use a chisel to lock the grid back tight again, that way iit won't creep back out for a few months anyway. Just tap an overlying grid over the loose one.

Was on a service call on Thanksgiving Day quite a few years ago because a kid working at a movie theater de-iced a Hoshi with an ice pick. He thought it best to stop when it started hissing.

Just remove the loose grid. Ice will look different, but works for some time. When I have seen people get creative with holding it in place, it causes problems down the road. If that grid is not making contact well enough, water can run behind it and freeze around it, not allowing harvest to complete.

I've seen them running with the entire grid missing, a few slats missing won't hurt anything

Cody is correct, you can hammer them back in and put an x on the cross poins of the grid. This burs the metal to hold the grids in place. The cost of a new plate only justifies a new unit. But putting an x on the grids will buy some time. I did it at a church to get them by, they had no funds for a new cuber.

I was able to secure a loose slat with a little food-safe silicone sealer.
Surprisingly, its held up for over a year now.
