    No More Twinkies?

    'Tis a dark day indeed...

Hostess Brands, the makers of Twinkies, Devil Dogs and Wonder Bread, has announced it is shutting down operations.

Twinkies- not a big deal. But if they try to mess with Little Debbie Swiss Rolls...

Looks like the union threw out the baby with the bathwater. Emporia KS now has 600 more unemployed.

They could revamp and keep the snack cakes alive. It's all about distribution. The biggest hurdle is shelf life. Believe it or not shelf life is only maybe 3 weeks tops. If Hostess could distribute there product thru a large region/nationwide distributor rather than route drivers. The grocer would be responsible for stocking the shelves, ordering , and QC at the shelf level. They could save a ton of cash. They would more than likely lose the mini mart business, but would hold onto the market business and probably the vending business.

with the push to legalize marijuana one would think there would be a increase in twinkie sales.

You'd think. In a previous life, raw cookie dough and McDonalds hot fudge sundaes were my munchies of choice

I do not disagree that upper management and CEOs should have taken a pay cut, however, they are not union and had no part in calling the strike. Hostess has stated repeatedly that they do not have the resources to weather a strike.

They also filed for bankruptcy in the past. Bad business plan.
