changeout (nuthin fancy)

Here's the before pics. The furnace had a bad heat exchanger. He went with a whole changeout. Its a 4 ton system & the copper was only 3/4.

Dang, I just realized I posted this in the wall of shame instead of pride. Heck some of yall might think its in the right place. Oh well. here's the replacement. & if any of you mods wanna move it, feel free.







Any of yall have one of these lights? they can really light up an attic.

Looks pretty good,but man that flex is kinda overwhelming.

Man that flex is horrible. Its so dryrotted that it tears when you pull it. I strongly encouraged him to replace that. Almost to the point of begging. lol He didnt want to spend the money. I did put some vinyl straps to kinda straighten out some of it.

But I'm with ya, it needs a major overhaul on the ductwork.

Oh ya,its hard to pass up a cherry changeout job,no ductwork,cash in the pocket quick,thats the way i like it,but usually i have to do the ductwork also, ide rather do change outs anyday,that friggen insulation in that flex is ruff,and so is ductboard.

Rudd,at least that what the indoor unit has stamped on it,i had never seen one quite like that,but heck theys a lot of different ones out there.

I bought it at Home Depot. It doesnt have a cord with it. So you'll need a extention cord just for the light. Once its powered, you can plug cords into it for power. Kinda cool.

Nice install, however, I do have a couple questions. Why was a 5inch double wall used all the way to the furnace? And the second, why didnt you run the secondary to the coil instead of the pan??

I'm not a fan of flex, but you cleaned that up nicely.
Is the old lineset still on the inside wall? I am assuming the old one ran inside the wall?

You should have put this in the wall of pride, the old stuff belongs here but the new install looks good.

As far as the vent goes, he must have read the instructions. If it's to be increased (from 3-5", then it's to be done at the outlet of the furnace). I cant see what size it is but 125-150k require 5" vent.

those are some nice lineset covers. I dont know of any distributors for that around here. We just make a channell with our brake. I do try to make it as small as possible. Its pretty much up to the homeowner to paint it if he wants to. Some do & some dont.

So do you buy that slimduct locally or online?

I've seen that light, but it's a bit large to fit in with all of the junk I usually carry. I just carry a couple of good clamp-lights w/12' cords and have 42 watt CFL bulbs in them. Usually one of them is enough to do an attic, 'though I"ve been known to throw multiple ones up there. More often than not, I'm in electrical & phone closets, so the clamp lights are a better option for me.

As a side note, I have a couple of the 42 watt CFL bulbs in my attic, amazing the difference they make. Even just regular CFL bulbs make a difference b/c of the whiter light...and have to mention how LITTLE heat they put out.

I like it, nice, but i will try to run the line set inside the wall more work but owner of the house has to find someone to close the wall. unless it is very dificult to do it. congratulations
