find the leak with electronic.... then fix what you have to..... doubt the lines are leaking
looking for some pointers. basically its a new trane r-410 A/H and cond. installed 2 months ago found unit is low on ref. they used the old r-22 lines most likely the leak is in the lines. but ill like to verify. im going to isolate and pressure test liq and suction seperate, then the evap coil is an aluminum coil i hear they leak alot, now my big question is do you think i should recover the charge instead of pumping down, then pressure test the cond. coil also, but i dont think ive seen a new cond coil leak but thats why im here i need your input. i dont work in residential everyday. sorry i didnt grab model and serial # the cond. coil is the famous aluminum trane spine fin.

it was working.... played with it.... now its broke.... whats the going hourly rate for HVAC repair
aluminum coils tend to leak less then copper coils. Use a electronic detector to get you in the location of leak and use bubbles to verify leak location. i start at 5psi nitro and go no more then 50psi for bubbles. check service valves for overheating and leaks. check cap tubes from rubbing. also verify there is a leak and its not a clogged drier or bad expansion valve that "looks" like its low.
Moved thread to Tech to tech residential
originally a tech went out and said the EEV was bad. so i went out to confirm and went with the new valve. the unit kept going off on low pressure i jumped out lo press. control and found i had 2 degree subcool my superheat was high didnt get exact numbers because my suction line was cool to the touch and my lo side psig was 70. so i shot in 3lbs of happy juice then my subcool came up to 11 degrees. with 17 degree superheat at suction king valve. watched it cycle on temp. 3 times to makes sure the valve was not closing up intermittantly.
ohm out the temp sensors to make sure their good. also make sure the correct stepper motor is on it. A guy on here had wrong stepper motor from factory. If this checks out i would say your low. it sounds low because you added and its good now. but ive seen stranger things happen
anything is possible but those tricky issues are a pain in the **s. but those are the ones you learn from, not seeing a swollen run cap on every call. Don't get me wrong those are nice too
so do you think i should recover and nitro the cond coil also? or just pump down the system and assume the cond. coil is good.
never assume. 9/10 it will bite u in the...
What are your pressures? Why do you think it is low on charge?
Assume=ass out of you and me.
