Being still new in this business, I would like to know if there are any remote controlled temperature controls for HVAC units. Like a remote controlled T.V. for example. With winter in full swing it would sure be nice to have something like this available

We have freedom because somebody fought for it.
We keep it because we are willing to fight for it.
We lose it because we are not willing to fight for it.
My Heat pump is located in my cottage. In the winter I leave the temp set at 10 degrees C. I usually spend one weekend a month at the cottage, and when I get there it is darn cold. I would like the ability to raise the temp a few hours before I get there. Also for insurance purposes it would allow me to monitor the temp while I am away to avoid a disaster.
disaster on what? pipe burst because it's frozen? put some electric heater as back up in the basement to act as backup if your heat pump fail (your air handler and t-stat should have emerg heat anyway). if there's massive power outage there's nothing you could do unless you have wood stove there and physically present to tend it. oh i know: you need a gas fire place with powerpile that turned on but at low heat setting.
A lot of money for the complication and convenience of not being cold for about an hour... OK, that's fine. it's your money. I'd say go ahead and do it. But I'll tell u ahead of time that the local HVAC man at your cottage may not be familiar with it. So in the end you need to be familiar with it and able to trouble shoot the user interface issue (programming, operation, why won't it heat up, the leaf won't won't show up, etc). I'm not. Can I figure out not heat situation? yes, it's your t-stat. Warranty? what warranty? if you buy it from future shop or something that's a lot of money goes down the drain and u'll get a heat only loaner to get you by.... lol
The price you see on amazon is not the price you'll get at your local HVAC place. So just to warn you that. And btw, you could do all of that in an ordinary programmable t-stat. it just the thing is you need to actually program it, you know, putting in your parameter and such. Electronic failure is pretty high in ordinary t-stat, and I hope that this one actually has low electronics failure, and don't forget to change the battery yearly.
