There is little or no difference in wages between male and female employees which can be attributed to prejudice or discrimination by employers. Other factors are to blame.
Two studies are mentioned in this article, one by the American Association of University Women and the other by the Department of Labor. AAUW's data show that when they controlled their samples for other factors, such as job choice, college major, time on the job, the gap between the wages of the remaining employees virtually disappeared. The DOL found that "individual choices" by male and female employees were responsible for the gaps between their wages.
