    Australian comercial refrigeration mechanic

I'm a 26 year old fully qualified Australian Refrigeration mechanic, main experience is in the supermarket and commercial industry in both breakdown and installation roles. I'm looking at moving to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada for a two year work visa mid next year. I'm after the major commercial refrigeration companies who specialise in the supermarket, grocery store and commercial industry. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

have you got job yet or were you gonna move and then hunt for one? the problem with canadian system is if you lack "canadian" experience sometime they will overlook you. ie your qualification won't be approved. you have to redo the apprenticeship or something, which is ridiculous. or just challenge the exam, which means you need to have all your hours and documentation from oz land. power is 120V 60hz for typical resi stuffss/inside of bldg, commerical most likely either 600v 3ph or 208-230V.

it's bloody cold in edmonton, why are you moving? the car selection sucks here and the winter is hard and long. I would think oz land would be better to live .....

You could try contacting the union in Edmonton. The United Association is the labor union that represents commercial air conditioning and refrigeration mechanics in the United States and Canada. Edmonton is Local Union #488, and you can visit that local's website here. The refrigeration business agent is listed on the page I linked to, and he should be an invaluable resource to you -- a hell of a lot more helpful to you than most of us could hope to be. At least, let's hope so -- he's a total stranger to me that's over 2200 miles away. Also, the United Association just signed an affiliation agreement with the Plumbing Trades Employees Union in Aus just recently, though I really haven't bothered to look up what all that entails.
