Whistling noise from ductwork
I've been dealing with an annoying squeaking/whistling noise coming from my homes duct work. It is intermittent every 3-4 seconds and only presents itself when furnace is on or A/C. When just the fan is running, there is nothing. Any ideas? It is definitely not coming from the furnace. Any ideas?

what kind of ductwork & plenums do you have?
flex duct is flexible.
hard pipe is hard pipe with duct wrap over it
plenums are either sheet metal (insulated internally
or externally)
or ductboard.
usually hard pipe makes noise as the metal expands and
contracts with temp of air moving inside vs what surrounds it.
more info would help.
best of luck. The cure of the part should not be attempted without the cure of the whole. ~Plato

Thanks for the responses. Turns out it is coming from the gas meter outside. Something inside the meter is squeaking and the sound is carrying into the house. I must have been mistaken about hearing it when A/C is running. Anyways, I will deal w Nicor to get it addressed.
