Trane RTHC moisture
I came across a Trane RTHC screw chiller with a cracked tube in the evap barrel. I am going to isolate the tube and do a complete oil change. Has anybody dealt with moisture in one of these chillers and if so what is the recommended methods for removing moisture?

How did you find the cracked tube? Eddy current? What caused it? How bad of a leak are we talking here? If you caught it early and you just have a little bit of moisture and/or water, you may be able to do it with a vacuum pump and multiple oil changes. If you have more than "a little", you need to drain all of the water, and you'll probably need a cold trap and some type of heat source. If the chiller lost the charge and was outright flooded, you need to call a professional dehydration company. If you have never dealt with a wet or flooded chiller, you should skip everything else, save yourself the heartache and just call a professional instead.

Eddy Current test. The chiller is not flooded. Not sure how much moisture, stil waiting on oil sample results. I do not believe it is that contaminated, just preparing for the worse in case. I know with POE it is a bugger to get moisture out of residual oil with a pump.

It can't be done. You're changing the oil no matter what. Better do a refrigerant analysis also.

Here it is. Trane recommendation. if the chiller was not flooded with water. There are 5/8" service valves under the evap and condenser barrels. Run a 5/8" copper line between the two service valves with isolation valves and liquid flare drier. Run and check may take several oil and drier changes to get moisture donw depending on level.
