I have a question regarding venting for a BDVR Majestic gas fireplace.I had a licenced tradesperson install the unit, and I am finishing closing the unit in, as I am renovating our basement. My question is, the vent piping is very hot, particularly at the 90 degree elbow that takes it from horz. to vertical. I really can't keep my hand on it for long. The pipe travels thru a concrete foundation wall before termination, and has been insulated with a foam insulation, right to the vent to fill the cavity prior to mortaring. Are these items cause for concern? The clearances for the vent are within the regs. I am just a bit worried about the heat. Thank you

Do you mean a DVBR? That is a direct vent unit and MUST be vented special double wall pipe. And no it shouldn't be hot as the required pipe exhausts through the inner pipe and draws combustion air through the outside pipe thereby cooling the pipe with cool outside air. Call the installer back to prove correct installation and have that installation inspected.
