    Problem with Trane thermostat

My Trane thermostat is flashing "service outdoor". The unit seems to be working fine. Does anyone know why it's reading this and if I should call someone out or any other way to make it stop?

Probably something out of sync with the outdoor unit. I recommend having it looked at by a pro. Better safe than sorry

A fault occurred. Look at it this way. Since its still working, you are getting a warning that it needs attention before it stops working. Sor of like the check engine light in your car. It comes on but you can still drive it, but something is not working right.

Some high end systems do have some fault monitoring in the defrost board and send a message to the stat to say service. Could have been a 1 time thing or a detected failure of a defrost sensor for example.
