I can't believe this thread went on for this long but I did get a lot of laughs from it. In reality it should have stopped after his first few post.

Using 20/20 hindsight, that's right.

However, we are a VERY forgiving bunch, and we also extend Pro status to some students, a few of whom are just as inexperienced as the OP, so it was a calculated risk that this guy might have been thrown to the wolves by a boss who put him in a truck, and said "go fix stuff." That dynamic is not unknown in the business.

Once it was clear what was really going on, several of us wanted to see if this guy could take the clues and put them together, and then post his solution, perhaps finally answering the many questions that we asked.

In this case, the calculated risk fell flat on its face. Even so, it was instructive in ways the OP never intended.

I had a no heat service call this Friday evening after a new customer of mine had described the same problem as what was discussed in this topic. Upon arrival, I said my hello's and took a look at a 14 year old York mid. The customer was confounded as to what the problem was with his furnace - he spent considerable time trying to figure it out. The burner would light up and go on for about 7s and shut down. It would repeat this action until the furnace locked out. Of course, I had the problem licked in under 5 minutes - the customer nearly dropped a load in his pants when he saw how easy I had fixed the problem. As it turned out, the customer is an electrician.

Your gas valve should have voltage for about four seconds after the igniter has glowed which is about seventeen to roughly twenty five seconds. Measure the voltage at the valve and see if it is dropping out from a failed relay. Check the limit switch inside the cabinet some smart Alec could of put it in backwards in the summer to get an easy call for winter.
