Another thermal bypass:
These ever rust out? What happens then??
Ever wonder why mobile homes have big energy bills?
So that sliced up road barrier and filterglass insulation, that's an open plenum return??!
Yep, this is in a crawlspace 50% connected to outdoors, with 550 cfm25 leakage on the returns:
Which makes more sense to you?
CONSERVATION - turning your thermostat back and being uncomfortable. Maybe saving 5-10%
ENERGY EFFICIENCY - leaving your thermostat where everyone is comfortable. Saving 30-70%
DO THE NUMBERS! Step on a HOMESCALE.
What is comfort? Well, it AIN'T just TEMPERATURE!
Energy Obese? An audit is the next step - go to BPI.org, or RESNET, and find an auditor near you.

I'm guessing the icicles are from condensation? Damn glad we don't have winters like that down here! Looks like that would destroy a house.

the ice is from heat loss.
The attic heats the snow load on the upper level of the roof and melts it. As the water rolls down the roof line it hits the soffet area of the roof line and because the soffet is the same temp as the outside temp it refreezes and creates the ice dams.

Interesting. I just built a house and had all the roofs foamed. Looked at my roof this morning. 34 degrees out, light frost on all the shingles, 68 inside. I'm impressed!
