Vacuum pumps/Microns
Had a system that wouldn't pump down last weekend. In the process of figuring out what was wrong, replaced the pistons/o-rings in my gauges and gaskets on my hoses. Then tried to pump down just the gauges and couldn't get below 3,000microns,then tested gauges against 350psi with leak check solution and found no leaks. Concluded that something in the pump needs rebuilt. Then pumped down gauges with different pump,went down to 200 and slowly climbed back up. Checked my 4 other sets, the same thing. ....any thoughts? and has anybody ever rebuilt their own pump?

Manifolds tend to be leaky, that's one reason you shouldn't use them for evacuation.
Straight hoses to the unit and vacuum rated core removers are the best and fastest way to pull a good vacuum.

Don't use your gauges as a test to see if the vacuum pump is good.
Next time hook the micron gauge directly to the pump and blank off other ports and turn on the pump. If it pulls under 50 microns then its good to go.
X2 on what JP says. manifolds and hoses leak. the best way to evacuate is vacuum rated hoses and core tools. You then can blank off the evac equipment and check microns on only the system.
There are good threads and pictures floating around with good setups.

Also, X2 on what Joe says.
Pump oil should be drained after each use and filled back up before evacuating.

I agree with nylog. I put it on all service valve caps that i touch and on my Manifold Connections. Love the stuff compared to that Blue leak lock crap.
