Update for November 2013 - One Full Year Since Installing 3-Ton Greenspeed

Here's an update through my last FPL billing as of November 11, 2013. Fall has begun and the hot, humid Central Florida summer season is winding down, with "winter" coming soon. Still loving my Greenspeed! Annual savings of $520 this year alone, plus invaluable comfort improvements have made this investment well worth it! The difference in cost over and above a competing 15 SEER system from the "top dealer" in my county will be paid back by next November!

NOTE #1: 03/30/13 - 04/10/13: Had six family members visiting for Easter and four stayed on to help with garage sale and landscaping the following week. Extra daily baths, showers, dishwasher runs and hair dryer usage, cooking three meals a day, washer/dryer ran almost non-stop. They had all my doors and windows opened with A/C “off” for 12 hours a day while working between outdoors, the garage, the laundry, the kitchen, and cleaning out “junk” in closets. Outdoor temperature and humidity rose into the 80’s, Greenspeed “recovered” about 8 to 10 degrees each evening for sleep time.

NOTE #2: 06/10/13: My grandson moved in with me... double the hot showers, triple the dishwasher runs, quadruple the cooking and washer/dryer usage. Not sure how much, if any, the FSEC retrogrades offset the increased power consumption related to a second resident. On 08/25/13 my grandson moved out, but the puppy stayed!

How well does the system keep up on the hottest days? You were a bit concerned about downsizing the 0.5 ton in the beginning. I'm willing to bet is does EXCELLENT even at the smaller size. Goes to show the difference between being installed RIGHT and actually getting the capacity you paid for vs. oversized while only putting out the typical 2/3 of rated capacity.

The 3-ton Greenspeed had NO PROBLEM keeping up on the hottest days! During spring & fall it ran at reduced capacity (i.e., 40%-60%) almost 100% of the time. In the summer it ran at reduced capacity (i.e., less than 100%) about 75% of the time... all but about 6 hours during the hottest part of each day. All in all, it ran at full capacity less than 10% of the time from March through November and the indoor temperature NEVER exceeded my daytime set point of 75* even during the afternoons when it was 98* outdoors!

I am so happy I took a leap of faith and chose the 3-ton Greenspeed over the 4-ton systems every other dealer tried to "sell" me as the "only" option to another 3.5-ton single stage replacement.

Looks like your installer nailed it on this one. Hope he gets lots of referrals from you
I see you are pro member, did going though all of this prompt you to get into the industry?

Five referrals and three installs to date. Pro member? That's news to me! I wonder how that happened? My son is in HVAC and my daughter-in-law is office manager for a large HVAC company in Orlando, but I'm still a self-educated novice!
