Sevel Gas A/C unit...Would like info, please

Greetings to all:

I am looking at a home, getting ready to put in a contract, the home has a Servel Gas operated A/C unit, and I have no experience with this type of A/C unit. (It has a Lenox Gas furnace/ electro-static, H2O, I believe, filtration system).
The last data tag on the Electro-static filtration unit (gauge indicates "needs service" is dated 12/1988).

The model of the Servel A/C unit is AC 48-00 Serial # is 529 00.01 Refrigerant is 717 @ 16.5 lbs, it runs at 280-230 v, and pulls 12 amps or less.

I would like to know the approx age to the unit and how energy efficient it is (was), and regarding the Lenox furnace:

Ser# is 5884C01693 connected to the water infused (for lack of a better term) electro-static air purifier. If any HVAC Guru's out there can be of assistance with info on these units, I woud be genuinely appreciative.

The Lennox is a 1984 vintage. Need a model # to know what it is beyond that.

The Servel could be about any age unless someone knows how to decipher the serial #. R717 is ammonia. Normally they are a very expensive way to cool unless you have free gas on your property.

Does the filtration unit look about the size of the furnace, connect to water and wash itself automatically? Agree with Bald on the gas AC, unless you have cheap gas rate, it'll be expensive to run!!

Oh and if you actually find someone who can fix it. I thought they were called Arkla-Servel?

I worked on Arkla Servels for 10 yrs. They are not very efficient and maint on them can be costly, cleaning tanks twice a year,and cleaning of the generator. Belt replacements, timers,etc. Same with the Servel out side heating and cooling system, most of my accounts changed systems with the rise in gas prices.

Make sure the price you pay for the house takes into account the DIRE and immediate need to replace the HVAC system.

As was previously mentioned, unless you have your own private gas well on the property, that AC system will cost you a fortune to run in the cooling mode, even if it is in good operating condition.
Considering that there are very few people who actually know how to work on them left, and they usually have never had the required annual maintenance performed on them, It is highly unlikely that the system operating at its best efficiency.

I concur about figuring your offer to include replacing the Furnace and the Gas A/C in this house

And my back hurts just thinking about removing that Arkla Gas Air Conditioner
