Worst Employer Ever. ...Share your Horror Story

I know every one has there own ..mine was I worked for a company that hired a new GM that would download porn from his desktop and despite being caught junk in hand several times by female employees still kept the guy on staff because of his experience. The owners had some brass ones for sure to continue to expose themselves to litigation....WOW!

worked for a dirtbag once and here I was driving to my next service call when saw flashing lights on the mirror, state trooper pulled me over and gave me a parade of traffic tickets for driving an unregistered vehicle, expired plates and no insurance, ended up going to court several times trying to prove it wasn't my fault, finally the judge allowed me to plead guilty to a minor traffic violation and fined me $300, the SOB refused to pay the fine and screwed me out of my last paycheck, he paid me after I took him to small claims court and then more...

Wow! That's bad. What state was that in and why did they stick it on you, rather than the owner of the vehicle??? That's got me looking fro now on.

My worst employer would call me every 30 - 45 minutes to see what I was doing while I was on site. He wouldn't let me just troubleshoot and repair. He flipped out at the drop of a hat. He got in fist fights on the job (never with me). Anyone I've ever interviewed with in this city asked me what happened there. When I told them who the owner was they just sit back and say, "Oh, I gotcha. So, who'd you like it THERE?"

Best and worst job at the same employer.

Back in the late 80's, I worked for a mom and pop shop in Ga. The old guy that owned the place was a saint. He had been there and done that in the trade. He had started his shop in the late 30's at the end of the depression and had literally been in business the entire time that A/C had been common in Ga.

So one morning we were sitting in the shop at 6:30 waiting for him to walk down, he lived up behind the shop. He would walk through the back door at 6:35 like clockwork every morning and dispatch us. So this morning he walks in the back door, coffee cup in hand, gets about halfway to the tech table and stops. He looks at us funny and then collapses. Massive heart attack. Dead before he hit the floor. We were devastated.

After the dust settled and we buried the old saint, his worthless son took over and proceeded to run the company into the ground. He wouldn't pay the suppliers. Was late with payroll a few times. Wouldn't fix the vans. Etc...

But he seemed to show up with a new motorcycle or pickup every other month. I saw the writing on the wall and bailed. Too bad. He ran his father's name in the ground.

Wow. That's sad. Too bad the son was so stupid/selfish with money. I guess he never heard, 'It takes money to make money'. It takes a little longer to get that motorcycle or truck legitimately, but it's worth the wait.

It's really interesting how the same dramas play out everywhere....

Totally relate valedelocc...So....same company with the perv GM....I get a ticket on my windsheild of my truck while in a home with a customer for expired tags. I bring the ticket to the owners wife who is charge of office admin and she assures me the will take care of it.... 3 days later new tags...much to my chagrin though a couple months later my personal auto insurance was up for renewal and my rate was hit with a big increase...come to find out they gave me the tags for another vehicle and never took care of the ticket...so the state suspended my license for non-payment of the ticket!! If I wasn't so pissed for having to jump through all the hoops to get my licenses reinstated and have the situation cleared I would have had to just laugh because it wuz so fricking ridiculous.....!

oh I would''ve come with gun ablazing if that ever happened to me. you could be cheap bastids, but don't ever mess with my licenses. specially when I have nothing to do with the wrong/fault that the company causes.

Every company i've been at has been a management nightmare.
i could go on for hours but i'll mak it short.

    Company #1)

i got hired right out of trade school, the company said they would pay me 17 per hour plus com.
    the company had weekly testing.
every time they gave me a test i scored around 98%, the only techs that scored higher were the 20 year guys who were writing the test.
you would think that would be a good thing ,but the guys who were working there 5 or 6 years were getting mad at me because their scores were poor.
they actually went to the manager and said they weren't going to participate in the testing anymore.

the more i worked , the less my paycheck was.
the last day i worked there i got my paycheck for a 60 hour week, i opened it up and it was $300.(which is less than minimum wage)
then i looked at my pager and they scheduled 3 or 4 compressor change-outs for me , for that day.

i was so pissed off , i felt dizzy.
i walked into the manager's office and i said "You're going to fix all of this right now, or i'm walking out of here, ...right now!"
she started in with her BS, so i turned around and walked out.

    Company #2)

i got hired at a sales company.
their prices were outragous and they didn't pay anything, but the job was so easy i ended up putting in a little over 2 years.

things became slow, and me and the other two AC techs had no work.
i found out that the manager attempted to hire 3 more AC techs while we were doing nothing.

the cheapest the company would let me sell a thermostat for was $630 bucks! ...and i was selling them.
well one day the manager walks in and says they raised all the prices.
i added up the price for a thermostat and it came out to $720!
    i said "that's enough i can't do this anymore"

    Company #3)

these two foreigners who were brothers offered me good money to work for them, so i decided to see how it would go.

i said "how many service techs do you have?"
    he says "almost 20"
i said "is the truck fully stocked?"
    he says "yes"
    i said "ok"

first day i find out i'm the ONLY service tech, the other guys are all installers.
he gives me an empty truck, i said "where's all the parts at?"
    he says "in the closet"
    ...whatever

after about a month the owner starts trying to cause me problems.
later he hires a temporary assistant manager just for that purpose.

one day i go to a call and the customer is complaining of air flow problems after the company put on a brand new pakage unit.
the room ducts were close together, under the unit, then there was a long run in the ceiling wall that went to a bathroom and continued to a bedroom.(it was a condo)
the next day the owner and the manager confront me and try to be all smart-ass.
they say "you're the professional, you're supposed to be able to fix these problems, tell us what you can do to fix this"

i said , "you want my professional opinion?"
    the owner says "yeah"
i say "i'm not going to be doing anything to fix this. you don't go and pull off a 2.5 ton unit and replace it with a 3.5 to create an illusion of better efficiency.
whether you want to send in the installers to put on the right size unit or bust open the walls to replace the duct is going to be YOUR decision."

needless to say i was laid-off a few months later.

    company #4)

    i got hired at Sears.
the manager hated me before she ever knew me.
she kept trying to throw my application in the trash, then when the personell department got my technicial test scores, they called her up and told her she WAS GOING TO hire me.
she gives me a van and i find a tow-truck receipt in it.
she DOESN'T give me a ladder.
every time the weather got hot, the van would overheat and stall. i spent 20% of my time tending to this freaking van.
the mechanics, including the dealerships, couldn't, or didn't want to fix it.
these people at Sears proceeded to tell me it was my imagination that the van was stalling.

then she calls me up telling me not to get rid of the roof calls, ...i guess i was supposed to magically appear on the roof without a ladder.
people told me to buy my own ladder, but i had to switch vehicles every week or so, there was no way for me to transport a ladder with my own vehicle, and i didn't want to leave my own property all over the place.
so i told her "it's time for you to solve this ladder issue"

she eventually found half of an extention ladder for me to use.

after a year and 8 months of pure hell at Sears, i got laid-off and they called me back to join a new crew.
at this point i found out the manager had submitted write-ups about me , without my signature. i reported this to the personell department.

everything went great for a couple of months, then they hired some BSer off the street to be our new manager.
this fool decides he's going to get us all fired, and he's going to hire his friends to take our place.
some of these guys i worked with had been at Sears for 5, 10 ,20 years, and he's getting them fired one by one.

    so i said screw it.
i started raising hell at Sears.
every time he tried to pull some crap on me or the crew, i reported him.

he tried to be a smart-ass and cut back my hours, so i filed to make them pay unemployment suppliment while i was still employed.
they were shaken up after that, they didn't know what to do.

they eventually fired me for clocking out too soon.

the two guys from my crew who were left , who were some of the best salesmen at Sears , got special permission to transfer to a different department.

out of all of them Sears was the worst

I know that dizzy feeling ...yr feelin like this can't be real...u start looking for hidden cameras, the ghost of Allen Funt or Ashton Kucher....I'M BEING PUNKED! WTF!

So Sears 17439 complaints on the BBB reveal some clues about what it's like to work there.....

    there's a site called RipOffReport.com.
they say they won't be removing any complaints.

...Sears is all over that too
