    Automated logic

Hello, working at a school that has automated logic BMS. I've got a whole section of the building with no communication, the computer graphics show up but I get no input reading, just a bunch of question marks. The units have power but no communication, could this be arcnet problem, or something else I'm over looking, just want to exhaust all remedies before automated logic service is brought in. Thank you

Probably better asked in the pro controls forum.

Do you know which controllers are where? If you do then start at the last communicating controller and look for issues with the comm. wire, if its a daisy chain it should be either the last communicating controller or the first non communicating..................

Unless your lucky like me, on one of the systems I installed a squirrel had his way with the comm. wire in the attic of the building, it made finding the issue real fun.

If you had a map of what modules are where and how the wire was run then you have a pretty good chance of finding the problem by plugging in what isn't working.

You mentioned arcnet. Is there some arcnet devices on the job.

Bacnet over Arcnet. Nice ;-) I didn't see arcnet from my highscool!

Etheric999, I would try to check the coax cable, point to point. This can be one or two day's worth of job (two men) but you'll end with accurate map of building that's easy to debug later. You should note that ohmic correct cable is NOT always impedance correct, and that means communication would not go through. You should ude coax cable ckecker, like Fluke Intellitone or similar.

You need to know your layout first. It could be something as simple as a LAN module offline and the other LAN module works, therefore you see part of the school. It could be a comm problem, if you have U or T cards it could be a sub-area network problem. Need more layout info to make a more educated guess.
