Can you guys tell me more about what I have?
Tonnage?
Age?
Ballpark Value?

I would say 6 ton gas package unit... but the "J" in 48TJD is a little confusing since the spec manual says TJs are 15+ tons.

What do you mean by value? There isn't a market for used equipment. They are worth nothing as they are, however there is scrap value for who ever wants to take the time to cut them apart and separate the copper from the rest of the stuff. There might even be a small value to the refrigerant. It is all pretty negligible compared to the cost of new units (and the amount of effort needed to take the units apart and scrap them) though.

One of my customers just sold a used 5 Ton carrier heatpump. 2006, side shot, mint condition everything looked shiny and new under the ceram wrap.
It was sitting in their welding storage for 4 years.
They got $ for it.
Used equipment isn't worth the risk to most Hvac guys. if something goes wrong or blows up burns down you're 100% liable.
Stripping out unit and getting a gently used compressor, boards, wheel and motors for $ is still barely worth it in my opinion.Last edited by beenthere; 10-02-2012 at 06:18 AM. Reason: prices
