Got some feedback from a Lennox dealer that the TRANE CleanEffects (American Standard AccuClean) has been generating reports that the air smells like rotten fruit, and it creates a lot of ozone! Can anyone substantiate this comment? Note that the Lennox dealer could install the American Standard, but suggested I go with the Honeywell F300 with an ultraviolet light as a more proven option...
Thanks for the help!

My parents has the Clean Effect, and they run it 24/7 since April, and house smells just fine. .
I've been in homes with the older EAC units, I sure can smell the ozone.

If I am not mistaken there is an adjustment on the control board to adjust for ozone smell. I know there is one on the Trane EAC unit.

Some people are much more sensitive to ozone then others. If you notice it ,turn it down ,as already stated.

I agree with them, but I want to touch on one other thing... ozone doesn't smell like rotten fruit, so I'm not sure where they came up with that statement.
Usually ozone has a clean type smell to it."If you call that hard work, a koala’s life would look heroic."

3 to 5 PPM is what is listed from the CleanFX in it’s literature. 5 on the highest setting and 3 on the lowest.
Those numbers are not what I would consider "lots of 03".
50 PPM+ is what I'd classify as "lots".
Smells like it just rained or fresh sheets to me

Dont give that Lennox Dealer an "Atta Boy Dave..." it does not creat enough ozone to be measurible and it cleans the air better than the air scrubbers of a hospital operating room.

Anything that arcs electrical current is going to produce ozone. The lower the ozone production on any air cleaner, the less amount of cleaning it is doing by charging the particles going through it.
Ozone has a sweet, clean smell. Think of the smell of the air after a thunderstorm; that's ozone.

The clean effects is one of the best air filters you can install in your home today. The first one we installed created a "smell". Homeowner claimed it was ozone.
We did not test for Ozone but found the contacts to be arching and after 2 weeks of operating had blackened. We adjusted the contacts on the cells to better connect with the power pack and it resolved the "smell".
Homeowner is very happy now and recommended to a co-worker to purchase the same system.
Check the contacts at the power pack and cells.
Check for proper air flow across the whole filter.
Good luck.Attitude is the difference between and ordeal or adventure

I am extremely sensitive to ozone- it gives me nasty chest pains, and I've learned to identify that smell from a mile away!
I've had a CleanEffects in my home for four years, and I've never had a problem.
