Its just another pro-legalize propaganda piece that tries to divert attention away from the harm these drugs cause by pointing a conspiratorial finger at profits.
Sorry but lets deal with the truth of NOT fighting the war against drugs and just give up and make it all legal.
Some call that " freedom " . What about the freedom to live in and raise your children in a society NOT inundated with life desyroying substances ? Or a society not policed to the extent that your kids could easily get wrapped up into an addiction that would cut their lifes short because there are no laws governing the sale of dangerous chemicals.
Sorry but even laws that would regulate the sale of these substances wouldn't keep it out of the hands of kids or stop the resale on a black market.
No legalization for marijauana or any more destructive substances than we already have like Alcohol and prescription meds.
Do you want to live in a society filled with complete idiots ??

Alcohol is legal and there are stil alcoholics, tabacco is legal and people die from it like crazy, just make it all legal collect the taxes and let us make our own choices. Take the power away from the drug lords and the street thugs. Wait a minute then what would the cops do because the crime rate and the drug infested ghettos would go away. If i could buy it legally then the drug dealers would be out of buisiness and the gang wars would end. Its all a bunch of insanity.

How does that benefit our society ? Because legalizing them would just open up a cheaper black market for people that cant afford the "prescription" cost or who are not old enough to buy their gram of cocain from WallMart.
Ridiculous.

I tend to agree here...
Take away the huge profits of illegality, and a big slice of the crime associated with it goes away. All one has to do is look at prohibition to find this to be true.
Problem is; it is human nature to want to do something one is told not to do... ever see a bare patch of dirt next to a 'keep off the grass' sign?
The drugs will always be here, legal or not. Taking the crime out of the equation would IMO be a positive.
Now to address kids choosing to take drugs. I have yet to see a kid who's parents raised him properly get involved in drugs to the point of self destruction. Yeah, a lot of them experiment a little when they are teens... I do not think that is involvement to the point of destruction.
And I think it is a given the violence of drug cartel gangs (which has come across the Mexican border into the USA)... would seriously subside if the drugs were not illegal. Again, witness prohibition.GA-HVAC-Tech

I agree with this.....What hasn't been brought up here is how much is spent on "counter drug ops". that price tag has to be Astronomically HUGE.......
When I was in the military we participated in anti drug ops in the carribbean.....Just on our ship to operate a 650ft ship, pay 600 sailors, feed 600 sailors, salute the "coast guard admiral" who was on our ship to make Navy participation legal.....etc. for a couple of months...... Millions of $$$$$$It's not the Brand with the fewest repairs-It's all in the install!!! Attention to detail and using the best materials!

Well............... it was kind of fun jamming their radar and sneaking up on a little POS fishing boat-turning the spotlights on them and watching them scramble throwing the baggies over the side....

Marijuana, cocaine and prescription meds are easier to get then alcohol and tobacco. You already live in the world you describe.
As someone else said, prohibition shows us what happens when you ban alcohol.
