    Challenger/boiler buddy.

    Did this last week, its sort of a cluster fu*ck but I ran short on room.

    Looks good,what did you remove,a warm air furnace and a boiler?

    They had a wood furnace that weighed a **** ton plus the crown boiler that weighed a crap ton lol.

    It's made for this application, spray foam lined, it's basically Thermo mass.

    what does the low header do?

    is it for space restrictions?

    It is to prevent short cycling, my boss can get carried away with these things, I could see a 399 firing into a bathroom zone or something but this is maybe overkill lol. The boiler heats the 30 gallons of water and the system cycles on that for a while.

    isnt that a modulating boiler?

    if it is, doesn't having the head kind of defeat the purpose?

    It usually works great with non modulating boilers that are zoned off. It is supposed to have a well style aquastat that the boiler just maintains a set temp with. The secondary side runs on and off until the temp drops far enuf for the boiler to fire again.

    It is but does not modulate down far enuf for smallest zone so technically would short cycle, like I said its over kill.

    gotcha...pretty cool.

    does that also serve as DHW? or strictly a holding tank for the zones?

    It's just the zones, It they were smart they would make one with a coil inside for domestic and kill two birds with one stone.
