Did you do a lot of studying for it?

I am thinking about just taking it to see if I know enough to pass.

    Thanks Brent!

    Good luck in november!

    Thats a hard one.

    150 questions is a lot!!!

Especially when not one is as easy as a question on the ua star exam!!!!

Those tests are incredibly hard to study for since they cover so much material.

I think the best approach is to brush up on a few of the basics like ohms law, and some of the simple math formula's used in HVAC, then go give it a shot. Just make strong mental notes of the subjects that leave you baffled (and there likely will be several questions that will make you scratch your head).

Also, when taking the tests be sure to read the question very well, don't skip through it. They love to do the test tricks... using "every" "all the time" "and" etc to affect which answer you pick.
One other suggestion I have is to go through the test, answer the questions you know the answers to. Then make a 2nd pass, good odds are some of the questions you skipped the 1st time will come to you this time around. And on your final pass... do your best to make an educated guess... like looking at the clock and seeing which quarter the second hand is in, and choosing A B C or D based on that lol

Does one need to be an RSES member for x amount of time before being allowed to take a test?

Why do people say the CM exam is hard? I got an 86 on my first try...

I kid, the CM test is crazy because of how broad it is, but you only need to get 70% right, so you can completely bomb out on some categories, and still pass.
When I took it, I didn't get even one single answer right on pneumatic controls or commercial refrigeration evaporators.

I've failed the heat pump CMS test twice though, once by 2 questions, once by 1 question.
Most/all of the test questions are taken from the RSES heat pump training manual, and I hadn't studied it, except for brushing up on some some specific things I don't have much experience with, like water source heat pumps.
Next time I take it, I'll have actually studied the the whole RSES heat pump training manual.

The "problem" with a lot of tests in the HVAC industry is that the real world answer to a lot of questions can vary by manufacturer, and often specific model, so if you haven't studied the specific source material that the questions were pulled from, your answer could be wrong, even though it is acceptable in real world applications.
