Quick question: Can you take a CMS exam without having a CM certification? Or do you have to have a CM first?
I'm just thinking about taking a CMS (Heat Pump) to increase my odds of passing. I know on the CMS you need 80% to pass.
This is due to my lack of experience in a few of the CM categories: Such as oil burners and boilers.

Brent.
Yes there is another certification just for that reason.
It is the exact same CMS heat pump exam.
-
But you have to be a CM to take a CMS, correct?
And I see that there is a SM certification available. I just don't feel like it carries the same weight as a CM or CMS.
Or is this just my imagination?
-
I personally believe it does.
The CM is very difficult and covers a lot of stuff.
If you take SM/CMS heat pump exam
You can take CM Later.
-
But so you know!
This is no NATE exam!!!
-
You can take any of the specialized tests without being a cm. If you pass you become a sm. If and when you pass the cm you become a cms I believe.

That's good! I took the NATE heat pump test with no prior studying and got something like 98% right! If you pass a NATE test it's not much to brag about....
-
They give out Nate badges/certifications like Cracker Jack toys!
-
LOL!
NATE exams have some good stuff on them and I think there are thousands of mechanics that would not pass it!
i think NATE is pretty good, just compared to RSES it is like an NFL team playing a Pop Warner team!!!!!!!!
